Services will be held for Mr. Frank M. Long who entered into rest with his loving family by h is side on his 88th birthday, March 17, 2006 from natural causes.
He is survived by his daughter, Kitty Fields and her husband Donald, grandchildren; Tammy, Ma rk, great grandchildren; Shane, Markie, Mykal, his aunt Cecil, who recently turned 97 and hi s beloved German Shepherds, Shadow and Rowdy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 year s, the love of his life, Mary in 2001.
Frank was born in Ottumwa, Iowa. He moved his wife and daughter to California in the 1940's . He entered the U.S. Navy where he earned two purple hearts and survived two downed ships an d a Japanese prison camp. He and his family relocated to Santa Cruz in 1954 from Stockton. H e spent his life as a building contractor; he loved to create with his hands. Frank had an in nate ability and rare ingenuity to invent. He was a self made man. He lived life on his terms . HE DID IT HIS WAY. He was a poet and an artist. You could often see Frank walking a mile in to Soquel Village daily. He was known as the pied piper of the neighborhood, animals and chil dren would naturally be drawn to Frank and he cared and loved for them all. He lived to hel p others. He often said "A day isn't complete unless you have done something for somebody."
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 24, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. Friends may call prior f rom 12:00 — 1:00 P.M. All services will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial — Oakwood Chapel and M emorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd., Santa Cruz, CA, 95065. Pets are welcomed.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Caring Project, 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, C A 95066.
All arrangements are entrusted to the care of Santa Cruz Memorial — Oakwood Chapel.
